Cooperative governance is an important element of Migros' culture. The proper and diligent management of the cooperative is one of the core responsibilities of the Board of Directors and Executive Board. As decision makers, they are aware of their economic, social and environmental responsibilities to all stakeholders.

At the end of 2011, Migros had more than two million members in its ten regional cooperatives. These members are co-owners of Migros. The ten regional cooperatives own the cooperative capital of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives (FMC), which coordinates the activities of the Migros Community and determines the strategy for Migros.
