Migros is making an exemplary contribution to protecting the climate. As such, it sets milestones in the efficient use of power, in the use of renewable energy carriers and in the reduction of refrigerant agent emissions. Last year, the retailer again met its energy- and CO2-reduction targets and approved an ambitious climate and energy strategy until 2020.

Migros is and remains the Swiss champion of implementing the Minergie standard for energy-efficient buildings. But the retailer also achieves milestones in their operation.

Transporting goods is a central task in retailing. Migros uses railway operators wherever it can. In 2011 the retailer doubled its efforts to switch overseas transports from aircraft to ships.

Migros uses operating waste and customer returns in innovative ways. In 2011 it decided to take back and recycle even more used products from its customers.

Nature is the cradle of our food. As a food manufacturer and retailer, Migros has a strong interest in biodiversity.  More than 300 employees were on assignment for biodiversity in 2011 for the first time.
