Migros Culture Percentage Classics takes off

The first season of Migros Culture Percentage Classics – a relaunch in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the traditional club house concerts – was extremely successful. In their first season in 2009/2010, the concerts delighted more than 30'000 classical music enthusiasts with six tours in eight Swiss cities.
A highlight was the tour of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the brilliant young Swiss soloist, Louis Schwizgebel-Wang: the KKL Culture and Congress Centre in Lucerne was fully sold out, and in Geneva tickets were even offered on the black market. DRS 2, Espace 2 and RSI Rete Due broadcast the concerts live.
The mix of famous orchestras, first-class directors, excellent soloists and Swiss talent promoted by Migros Culture Percentage paid off.

Dancing around the world

In spring 2010 the 12th edition of Steps, the dance festival of Migros Culture Percentage, was held. Under the motto Die Welt tanzt an (The world dances), 12 international ensembles toured Switzerland for 3 weeks. Of the 80 shows, half were sold out. A total of some 28'000 dance enthusiasts visited the performances.
The programme of the 12th edition was guided by the creativeness of the choreographers and offered a broad insight into contemporary dance. Babel by the Belgian choreographers Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet, and co-produced by Steps, and the performances of the Limón Dance Company from New York and the Brazilian Balé da Cidade de São Paulo were particularly popular among the public.

For complex Swiss films

In 2010 Migros Culture Percentage launched two new sponsorships in Swiss film. With the newly created CH-Dokfilm competition, Migros Culture Percentage sponsors documentaries on relevant Swiss topics. Migros Culture Percentage determines the topic. For 2010, it was «living environments – living together». A jury selects a maximum of five from the projects submitted. They are financed by Migros Culture Percentage until they are ready for production and then again submitted to the jury. The winning project is financed by Migros Culture Percentage.
The Migros Culture Percentage now also supports ideas for feature films. The aim is to strengthen the creative phase of script writing. The two new sponsorships supplement the existing commitment of Migros Culture Percentage in the areas of post-production and film culture.
