Certified products

The Migros Group companies sell many products that offer social or ecological added value. Migros also offers a wide range of products for people with special dietary and health requirements. These include vegetarian and vegan products, and food for people with intolerances. In 2018, Cooperative Retailing offered a total of 186 food, cosmetic, washing and cleaning products that carry the aha! label. The label denotes products that are particularly suitable for people with allergies or intolerances.

Cooperative Retailing is steadily expanding its range of sustainable products. This includes products that have been organically cultivated and fairly traded, that conserve natural resources and which guarantee a high standard of animal welfare. With the Cumulus Green service, holders of a Cumulus card can check the proportion of products in their shopping basket that carry a sustainable label. In 2018, the Cumulus Green share was 21.1%, up 0.4% on the previous year.

In 2018, the total sales of all products with a sustainable or health label or which originate from regional production rose by 5.3% in comparison with the previous year. These products make up about 30% of the total sales of Cooperative Retailing (excluding tegut).

Social standards

It is important to Migros that its products are produced under audited working conditions and are of the highest quality. It therefore implements social standards along its supply chain, has its producers audited and invests in training.

amfori BSCI

To ensure socially acceptable working conditions in the supply chain, the Migros Group demands that all suppliers and producers meet the minimum social requirements of the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct or equivalent requirements, such as SA8000, ETI or ICTI Care.

Further audits were carried out in India, Vietnam and Turkey. The detailed results of the amfori BSCI audits were in line with the industry average.

1 The audit chapters regarding documentation, working conditions, health & social facilities and accommodation are no longer documented in separate chapters in the 2014 version. The data for 2011-2014 from these chapters was consolidated under 'Earlier chapters from the 2009 version'.

2 More than one non-conformity can be discovered per audit.

In addition to the amfori BSCI audits, specialists from Migros carried out 138 factory inspections in the reporting year, primarily in India and China. The aim of the inspections is to give the specialists an insight into the conditions of the factories on-site. This allows any non-conformities relating to the amfori BSCI audit to be identified.

Cooperative Retailing also provides training, factory visits and courses to help its suppliers implement social standards. amfori BSCI workshops are a key part of this: Migros specialists invite factories to these workshops so that they can prepare effectively for an amfori BSCI audit or obtain information on how to correct existing non-conformities. In the reporting year, factories took part in 248 workshops (2017: 115).
