Occupational Health Management

Within the Migros Group companies, activities aimed at boosting the ability to work, preventing incapacity and facilitating the reintegration into working life are systematically managed and optimised as part of occupational health management (OHM).

Specialists from different areas contribute towards the success of the OHM activities. To tap the potential of interdisciplinary exchange and strengthen the joint commitment, an intercompany conference involving all OHM specialists took place in autumn 2013.

Friendly Work Space®

Twelve companies from the Migros Group have already been awarded the Friendly Work Space® quality seal for exemplary occupational health management (OHM) by the Health Promotion Switzerland foundation. This label recognises companies that make a comprehensive and systematic commitment to the health of their employees in accordance with the OHM criteria. The certified companies represent the entire value-added chain of Migros. Six of these companies, of which two are from the Romandie, originate from the Cooperative Retailing business unit. Two of them are from the Industry and four from the remaining business units. In 2013 one company was certified for the first time and two others were successfully re-certified.

The certifications are proof of the positive advances in the Migros Group's OHM and help the further integration within the company. The net balance shows that systematic occupational health management has a permanent position across the entire Migros Group and is being developed continuously.

Occupational health and safety

Migros meets its legal responsibility towards employees with a group-wide solution for the Migros companies. This ensures the systematic and comprehensive implementation of occupational health and safety standards. Strengths and potential measures are identified across the companies and mutual solutions are developed. The individual companies are continuously informed of the latest health and safety aspects and are given support by specialists, as well as subject-specific work and communication tools.

Prevention and health promotion

To maintain and boost the capacity for work, specific prevention and health promotion measures are taken within the Migros Group companies. The potential health of employees is maintained and boosted with health-promoting working conditions and by teaching health-promoting behavioural measures.

In 2013 there were numerous activities in the areas of ergonomics and mental health, for example. The main focus was on implementing tools developed at Group level in the individual Migros companies in order to maintain and improve mental health.

Absenteeism and case management

A key aspect of Migros' social responsibility is the support and reintegration of sick or injured employees. To this end, helpful discussions are held as soon as possible with those affected and reintegration processes are actively promoted. Measures are taken quickly and in accordance with the needs of the employees. The positions involved work together closely to activate the resources needed for optimum support.

On this basis, it was possible to improve the partnership with the invalidity insurance provider (IV) even further thanks to a central IV office in the Romandie.
