Subordination to Collective Work Agreements

The number of employees at Migros who are covered by a collective work agreement is almost twice as high as in Switzerland generally. But Migros goes even further.

Subordination to collective work agreements in the Migros Group
As of 31 December 2010 around 74% of all workers in the Migros Group were covered either by the Migros national collective work agreement or the collective work agreement for Magazine zum Globus AG (Globus department stores and Herren Globus), Interio and Office World AG. This does not take into account the most recent collective work agreement in the Migros Group, the travel collective work agreement. This is the first collective work agreement in the Swiss travel and tourism sector, and guarantees working conditions of the highest standard, tailored to the specific circumstances of the Travel business unit. Although the agreement was concluded in March 2010, it was agreed that it would come into effect on 1 January 2011. As a result, 60% of the employees in the Travel business unit can also now enjoy the benefits of being covered by a collective work agreement; this means that the subordination rate has now seen a further rise.

Collective work agreement subordination: Migros/Switzerland compared
A comparison shows that the circle of employees covered by a collective work agreement is almost twice as high as in Switzerland generally. In Switzerland as a whole, only 40% of employees have any sort of collective work agreement at all. Collective work agreements, or subordination to collective work agreements, are therefore the exception in Switzerland, rather than the rule.
