Participation
The personnel committees in the Migros Group were reappointed in 2010. As internal social partners they play a key role and have wide-ranging co-decision and co-determination powers at company level.
Social partnership happens extensively in the Migros Group: there are 47 personnel committees in all business units whose 439 members at around 1'300 business locations all over Switzerland look after the social and economic interests of employees representatively and with democratic legitimacy. The candidacy of the 439 elected women and men was supported in writing by over 5'000 of their colleagues. Several tens of thousands of votes were cast in the ballot, and 68% of voters were women. The proportion of women on the personnel committees has risen to over 41%, and therefore far exceeds the proportion of women in other employee organisations, which ranges between 20% and 30%.
Because the personnel committees also represent managerial staff below board level, they are also represented on the committees, and are able to contribute their own skills accordingly. With employees having an 87% share, trainees 3% and managerial staff 10%, the personnel committees are universally representative, lending the internal social partnership a 360° perspective.
