G. and A. Duttweiler Foundation
In 2013 Migros celebrated the 125th birthday of Gottlieb Duttweiler. Swiss Post paid tribute to the founder of Migros with a special commemorative stamp. Gottlieb and Adele Duttweiler established the G. and A. Duttweiler Foundation in 1950 to ensure that their ideas would live on after their deaths. The foundation is supported by Migros, but is legally independent.
The Foundation Council's tasks include monitoring adherence to the statutes and covenants. Gottlieb Duttweiler also showed great foresight with regard to determining the salaries of managers and spared Migros the current political discussions. The Foundation Council is responsible for adjusting the salary bands of Migros' senior management. The statutes invite the Foundation Council to join different committees, in which it can put forward its views in an advisory capacity in the interest of the founders' ideas.
The Foundation Council has successfully dedicated itself to ensuring that not only the regional Cooperatives and the Federation of Migros Cooperatives make a contribution towards social and cultural issues (Migros Culture Percentage), but that the voluntary obligations are also extended to all other Migros companies (Engagement Migros – a Migros development fund).
In the past year, the Idée Migros study, produced on behalf of the Foundation Council of the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute (GDI), again resulted in lively debate and opinions in the Cooperatives, which highlights the current-day relevance of the founders' values and ideas.
The Foundation Council includes the following seven independent members:
Peter Birrer (Chairman), Claudius Alder, Hans-Ulrich Frei, Charlotte Hug-Burnod, Elena Mattle-Andreoli, Markus Mosele, Michel Renevey.
