Women, Family and Career

The status of women in work and business plays an important role in both the prosperity and progress of society and the performance of businesses. This is why Migros is committed to the compatibility of career and family and provides exemplary support to its staff with its forward-looking family policy.

Women in managerial posts

The proportion of women in managerial posts increased even further in 2013, with 15.5% at directorate level and 26.7% at executive level.
This continues the positive trend within the Migros Group over the past few years.

Family-friendly working-time models

Family-friendly working hours require framework conditions that support the compatibility of career and family, which is why Migros lobbies for Swiss legislation to take into account the family needs of employees.

As of 1 August 2010, an employment law regulation has been in force which, in addition to rotating shifts, also allows a working time system with night work or day work only, without permanent rotation between the two. This takes into account that, for family or social reasons, it is often not reasonable for many employees – especially women – to work in a rotating shift system. Migros has lobbied hard for this regulation, which takes the needs of employees with children seriously and improves the compatibility of career and family.

Support possibilities and social advice

Migros offers its employees a broad range of services and aids to support them in different life situations.

Migros' occupational social and family counselling offers free and confidential advice and supports its employees with professional and personal issues in the areas of work, health, private life, finance and law. It assists in the development of possible solutions, accompanies their implementation, provides information and puts staff in touch with internal and external departments and specialists.

Especially on issues such as mental illness or the reintegration of long-term absentees, Migros actively promotes the collaboration between all specialists to offer comprehensive support for employees.
