Leisure

With its initiatives to promote health and better leisure opportunities, Migros is working towards a better quality of life for all. With more than 190'000 members, it also had the greatest share of the fitness market in 2016.

Migros has been a leader in the leisure and health market since the 1970s, and now operates some 150 health-enhancing locations throughout Switzerland. In 2016, it extended its leading position with a total of eleven new locations.

Alongside 99 fitness centres, spas and aquaparks, 36 Medbase and santémed health centres offer holistic medical care.

Leisure facilities & health centres

The aim of the Migros leisure and health facilities is to promote the physical, mental and social well being and health literacy of the Swiss population. What the facilities all have in common is a strong commitment to public health and to the principle of "a better quality of life for all, at the best value for money".

Off on the right foot: Bootcamper

In 2016, Migros Cooperative Aare acquired Switzerland's leading provider of functional outdoor training: Bootcamper.ch AG. Bootcamps are now offered by most Migros fitness centres.

Weight management: new programme introduced

In order to provide customers with optimum advice on the related areas of nutrition and exercise, the fitness centres introduced a new weight management programme in 2016, consisting of intensive one-to-one coaching over a twelve-week period.

Migros golf parks

Since 1995, Migros has played a major part in making the game of golf a mass sport throughout Switzerland – with six golf parks, two golf campuses and a major commitment to promoting young talent. Migros is the biggest provider of public golf in Switzerland.

16'004 independent golfers hold the Migros ASG GolfCard, which offers an alternative to traditional club membership. With the website golfparks.ch, the golf parks present themselves on a shared central platform.

The number of golfers holding a Migros ASG GolfCard increased to 16'004 in 2016. This positive development can be attributed to the card's excellent value for money, new services and the expansion of the range of golf holidays.

Foundations

The four "Parks im Grünen" have been delighting young and old alike for decades. Situated on the outskirts of large Swiss cities, "Park im Grüene Rüschlikon" (Zurich), "Park im Grünen Münchenstein" (Basel), "Gurten – Park im Grünen" (Bern) and "Parc Pré Vert du Signal de Bougy" (Lausanne) provide the perfect place to relax and unwind. They invite the Swiss population to spend time in nature and take a break from the daily routine.

For children, the parks offer space and variation, including climbing castles, slides and water games, as well as puppet theatres and miniature railways. Adults can enjoy the well-tended gardens, a diverse cultural programme and a range of restaurants. Depending on the location, the cultural programme includes live music evenings, outdoor cinemas and film screenings for the whole family.

The four parks are managed by the regional Migros Cooperatives and funded by Migros Culture Percentage. Visitors can enjoy most of the activities free of charge.

Monte Generoso railway

The "Fiore di Pietra" (stone flower) building on Monte Generoso was designed by top Ticino architect Mario Botta and completed in 2016. The new tourist attraction features a bright and spacious gourmet restaurant, a convenient self-service restaurant and a state-of-the-art, divisible conference room with space for ten to 100 people.

The building is situated on a rocky mountain plateau and boasts a breathtaking 360° panoramic view. The range of leisure facilities includes hiking trails, bear caves, observatories, a via ferrata and much more. It opens on 8 April 2017.

Sponsorship activities

Fun runs

Migros and SportXX supported numerous fun runs throughout Switzerland in 2016. Migros' contribution was part of the "From us. From here" initiative. The 230'000 runners were each given a Migros goody bag filled with own-brand products. The Migros Finisher Clip allowed participants to relive key scenes from their race online. In 2016, Generation M promised 70'000 children free participation in a fun run.

Families & children

Families and children have always been very important to Migros. That is why we sponsor a wide range of events aimed at families. These include the car-free slowUp days, the Famigros Ski Days and the Migros Grand Prix. The outdoor event Famigros campfire night was launched in 2016, along with Mini-Migros, Switzerland's largest role-play supermarket for children.
