20 Years Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst

The Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2016. The opening of the anniversary exhibition on 14 October 2016 was a resounding success, with almost 900 visitors. The highlights of the evening included an appearance by the Finnish shouting choir Huutajat and the musical performance Slogans Remix. As part of the comprehensive educational and support programme, issues relating to contemporary art and the daily life of the museum were discussed. The event saw the museum working together with various partners, such as art schools and universities.

Successful dance festival Steps

The 15th edition of the Migros Culture Percentage Dance Festival Steps, dedicated to the theme "Future", attracted 34'000 visitors from across Switzerland. Eleven companies from four continents provided insights into contemporary dance with 90 performances on 40 stages. The programme was rounded off by a specialist symposium and master classes. About 3'000 children and young people took part in the workshops and pupil presentations as part of the Ballet Junior de Genève programme, developed especially for Steps. The introductions of the works were well attended, as were the subsequent discussions.

Time is now – the book about Switzerland's pop music scene

In Switzerland, pop musicians are seen mostly as amateurs, with few people realising just how much hard work, networking and years of financial support lie behind their success. "Time is now", published by Zurich-based Limmat Verlag in 2016, addresses the situation with stories and analysis. It aims to raise awareness of the diversity and professionalism of the pop scene, as well as the challenges it faces. Migros Culture Percentage has been promoting pop culture for about 20 years and has thus contributed to the growing success of this category of culture.

15th Chamber Music Competition

At the public final of the 15th Chamber Music Competition at Zurich's Tonhalle, the Orion String Trio won both the "Migros Culture Percentage Ensemble 2016" award and the audience prize. The musicians from Basel impressed the judges and audience, and beat the Geneva piano trio Aeterno and the Zurich percussion sextet Cosmic Percussion Ensemble in the final. Along with the CHF 10'000 prize money, the Orion String Trio will also receive extensive support and benefit from the concert arrangement service offered by Migros Culture Percentage.

Digital Kids

Migros Culture Percentage's Digital Kids competition celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2016. Since bugnplay.ch was launched in 2005/2006, 1'200 children and young people from throughout Switzerland have taken part in the competition with 670 projects. Digitalisation has given rise to a whole range of creative tools within just a short space of time, including video clips, audio collages and robotics programmes. The fourth edition in the "Edition Digital Culture" series, entitled "Digital Kids" and published in 2016 by Christoph Merian Verlag, Basel, is dedicated to the media practices of children and young people.
